Key Responsibilities
- Collect, sort, and process linens and personal clothing with care and attention to labels and special instructions.
- Operate commercial washers and dryers, ensuring proper load sizes and detergent levels for best results.
- Fold, sort, and organize clean linens and clothing onto carts for distribution throughout the residence.
- Perform light mending and ironing as needed, extending the life of residents’ personal items.
- Monitor inventory, report low supplies, and set aside items that need repair or replacement.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary work area, following infection control protocols and cleaning schedules.
- Observe equipment performance and report any malfunctions to the team leader promptly.
- Assist with deep cleaning duties in the laundry area as outlined in daily and weekly routines.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives by sharing observations and suggestions with the team.
- Support residents and team members with a helpful, respectful attitude.
Qualifications
Must haves:
- Completed secondary school or equivalent.
- Practical knowledge of cleaning practices, infection control, and laundry equipment.
- Comfortable working independently and also collaborating with a small team.
- Able to communicate clearly and respectfully with residents, families, and coworkers.
- Successful clearance of the Vulnerable Sector Check (Ontario applicants) or Criminal Records Check (British Columbia applicants).
Nice to have:
- Previous experience in institutional laundry, housekeeping, or long-term care settings is an asset, but not required. We’re happy to train the right person.
