Every cart you deliver, every load you process, and every piece of equipment you restock helps our clinical teams do what they do best.
Key Responsibilities
- Unload clean linen from delivery carts and load soiled linen onto trailers for transport to external laundering providers.
- Deliver linen carts to patient care units, clinics, and emergency departments based on daily par level requirements.
- Count unused linen from the previous day and adjust orders accordingly to maintain appropriate inventory levels.
- Respond to special linen requests from clinical areas and stock as needed.
- Operate industrial washers and dryers to clean scrubs, curtains, patient slings, and other washable items.
- Restock Scrubex dispensing machines with clean surgical scrubs and remove soiled items for laundering.
- At Toronto General only: complete UHN-provided tow motor training and obtain licensing to safely transport linen carts.
- At Toronto Western only: restock aLex linen dispensing machines with clean sheets, towels, and linens on patient units.
- Follow all Infection Prevention and Control protocols, including hand hygiene, isolation procedures, and proper PPE use.
- Clean and disinfect equipment using bleach and hospital-grade chemicals in accordance with safety training.
- Wear required PPE including gloves, isolation gowns, surgical masks, N95 respirators, and eye protection as needed.
- Perform cross-functional duties and other tasks consistent with the job classification as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or recognized equivalent.
- Less than three months of practical experience—this is an entry-level opportunity with on-the-job training provided.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during shifts.
- Physically capable of pushing and pulling loaded linen carts weighing up to 23 kilograms.
- Basic math skills for counting inventory and adjusting par levels.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks in a busy hospital environment.
- Professional, courteous demeanor with a client-service orientation.
- Commitment to confidentiality and compliance with UHN privacy policies.
- Ability to work effectively within a diverse workforce and appreciate varying perspectives and backgrounds.
Additional requirement for Toronto General applicants:
- Successful completion of UHN’s internal tow motor training program and licensing.
