If you’re handy with tools, comfortable working independently, and don’t mind a role that keeps you moving between different sites each day, this could be a great fit. Tech 5 Recruitment is seeking a reliable and professional Property Maintenance and Assessment Technician for an ongoing role based in Christchurch City. This position has come about due to a significant increase in workload and will continue while demand remains high. You’ll be traveling between community housing complexes, carrying out small repairs, completing condition assessments, and raising work orders for larger jobs. If you’re practical, tech-savvy, and able to work autonomously, we’d like to hear from you.
About the Role
This is a hands-on role with real variety. You’ll be based out in the field, visiting occupied homes and community housing complexes across Christchurch. Your focus will be on two main areas: completing small repairs and maintenance tasks, and carrying out condition assessments to identify larger issues that need attention. You’ll use technology to log jobs and raise work orders for contractors, making sure nothing falls through the cracks. A company vehicle is provided, so you can focus on the work without worrying about transport.
Key Details:
- Hours: 8:00am – 4:30pm, Monday to Friday
- Location: Christchurch City (travel between sites)
- Vehicle: Company vehicle provided
- Duration: Ongoing while demand remains high
What You’ll Be Doing
- Carry Out Small Repairs and Maintenance: You’ll handle minor repairs and maintenance tasks on-site—things that don’t require a specialist contractor but still need to be done right.
- Complete Condition Assessments: You’ll inspect occupied homes, assessing the condition of properties and identifying any issues that need attention.
- Log Jobs and Raise Work Orders: Using technology, you’ll record your findings and raise work orders for larger repairs that need to be passed on to contractors.
- Work Autonomously: You’ll be out on your own, managing your day, making sound on-site decisions, and getting the job done without constant supervision.
- Liaise with Contractors: When larger repairs are needed, you’ll coordinate with contractors as required, making sure they have the information they need.
- Maintain Professionalism in Sensitive Environments: You’ll be working in occupied homes, often in sensitive situations. Privacy, respect, and professionalism are essential.
About You
- General Maintenance Background Preferred: If you’ve got experience in maintenance, handyman work, or a related trade, that’s a plus. But if you’re handy and willing to learn, we’re interested.
- Confident Using Tools: You’re comfortable with basic tools and capable of carrying out minor repairs to a good standard.
- Tech-Savvy: You’ll be using technology to log jobs and raise work orders, so comfort with apps, tablets, or similar systems is important.
- Resilient and Trustworthy: You’ll be working independently in occupied homes. We need someone who can be trusted to do the right thing, even when no one’s watching.
- Professional Presentation: You’ll be interacting with residents and contractors, so a professional manner and good communication skills are essential.
- Able to Work Independently: You’re self-motivated and capable of managing your own time and workload.
- Strong Communicator: You’ll need to explain issues clearly, whether you’re talking to residents, contractors, or your supervisor.
- Proactive Approach: You don’t wait to be told what to do next. You see what needs doing and get on with it.
- Full Driver’s Licence: Required-you’ll be driving a company vehicle between sites.
Why This Role?
- Company Vehicle Provided: No need to worry about transport or fuel costs.
- Consistent Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm-stable and predictable.
- Varied Work: You’ll be moving between different sites, meeting different people, and tackling different tasks each day.
- Work Autonomously: If you like being trusted to get on with the job without someone looking over your shoulder, you’ll enjoy the independence.
- Make a Difference: Your work helps keep community housing in good condition for the people who live there.
- Ongoing Opportunity: While the role continues while demand is high, the significant increase in workload suggests there’s plenty to do.
