Labor and Delivery Employees Wanted In Japan

A growing consulting firm providing services to the US Federal Government, US Military, and commercial clients is seeking an experienced Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse to support a government facility in Yokosuka, Japan. This is an on site, in office position that offers the opportunity to provide nursing care to routine and high risk obstetrical patients including newborns during the transition period. If you are a dedicated L and D nurse with a minimum of two years inpatient experience and hold the required certifications including ACLS, NRP, and Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring, this role offers a unique chance to work in a military healthcare setting while living in Japan. US citizenship is required and H1B sponsorship is not available for this position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to routine and high risk obstetrical patients including antepartum, labor and delivery, postpartum, and neonatal care through rooming in or nursery settings.
  • Establish priorities of patient care based on triage, nursing diagnosis, essential patient needs, and expected outcomes collaborating with the multi disciplinary team.
  • Administer medications and IV therapy employing knowledge of pharmacological agents, their indications, routes of administration, expected actions, and potential side effects.
  • Provide recovery care for post anesthesia patients following C sections, cerclage, tubal ligations, and spontaneous pregnancy loss.
  • Set up, operate, and monitor specialized medical equipment including IV infusion pumps, PCA pumps, vital sign machines, electronic fetal monitoring, cardiac monitoring devices, and ultrasound equipment.
  • Perform sterile vaginal examinations, speculum examinations, and diagnostic procedures via electronic fetal monitoring and tocometer.
  • Serve as a patient advocate maintaining patient confidentiality while assisting patients, families, and significant others in identifying limitations and accessing appropriate care.
  • Conduct and participate in patient bedside rounds, patient care conferences, and discharge planning ensuring coordinated care across the continuum.
  • Provide telephone advice based on clinical knowledge and accepted standards assisting beneficiaries in accessing appropriate ambulatory and emergency care.
  • Develop and monitor quality improvement programs with peer reviews, staff education, chart reviews, and statistics to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Complete orientation and competency verification programs in accordance with unit guidelines and participate in committees and meetings as directed.
  • Maintain proficiency in electronic medical record systems including AHLTA, CHCS, and Essentris for all patient encounters.

Qualifications

Minimum two years of experience as an inpatient labor and delivery nurse within the last four years is required. Candidates must hold current Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification, Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification, Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring certification through AWHONN, and Basic Life Support certification. Emergency Clinical Obstetrics and STABLE certification must be obtained within 30 to 90 duty days of arrival. Experience with postpartum and newborn nursery is highly recommended. Experience aligned with Level 1 Labor and Delivery per ACOG maternal care reference levels is highly preferred. US citizenship is required for this position.

Benefits and Perks

This full time position offers a competitive compensation package commensurate with experience and qualifications. The work schedule involves approximately 14 to 17 shifts per month with each shift lasting 12 to 16 hours. Rotating day and night shifts occur on a quarterly basis. Participation in on call duties is required with 24 hour call every other week and the ability to arrive within 30 minutes if called in. On call compensation applies.
